I bought my laptop which had already been used for a while. Now it asks me to "activate windows". I don't have the product key neither do I have any means to get it as I moved to another country shortly after buying my laptop. Are there other ways to activate windows? Can I buy a new product key?

I need to check what type of Windows licence is on that device and if it is possible to reactivate that licence.

    1

Click your Start Button, type cmd then right click Command Prompt and choose 'Run as Administrator'

Run or paste this command and hit Enter:

    slmgr.vbs /dlv

Please post a screenshot of the resulting dialog

    2

Download the free ShowKeyPlus app from the Microsoft Store.

Please provide a screenshot of that app window and please hide your product key in the screenshot.

To activate Windows without a product key, you have a few options:

    1. Purchase a New Product Key: You can buy a new product key from the Microsoft Store or authorized retailers. This is a straightforward way to activate your Windows installation.
    2. Use OEM Activation: If your laptop originally came with Windows pre-installed, it might have an OEM activation. In this case, the product key is embedded in the BIOS. You can check if your system can retrieve this key using tools like the MGADiag tool.
    3. Contact the OEM: If you bought the laptop used, you might want to contact the original manufacturer (OEM) to see if they can provide you with the product key or assistance in activation.
    4. Volume Licensing: If your laptop was part of a corporate or educational institution, it might be eligible for volume licensing. You would need to check with the institution for activation details.
    5. Upgrade Options: If you have a qualifying previous version of Windows, you might be able to upgrade to a newer version, which could provide you with a valid activation.

Keep in mind that using unauthorized methods to activate Windows can lead to compliance issues and is not recommended.
