How to stop automatic capitalization of next line of outlook (Hotmail) emails. I don't have links from "Mail" to any adjustment controls in my email settings.

When I compose an email in Outlook (Hotmail) each subsequent line automatically

capitalizes the first letter of the first word when I press the space bar for the next word.

I have searched File, Mail, settings then all the options but there is no link to an editor

function so I can untick "Capitalize" or any other link to stop the automatic capitalization

after pressing the space bar. So I press "Enter" to go to the next line, type the first word

but as soon as I press the space bar to go to the next word the first letter of the first word

on the second line is automatically capitalized. I am using Windows 11 on my Dell laptop.

Please help.

On the Outlook (Hotmail) toolbar to the far right there is an icon like an A but with a circle

in it instead of the usual bar. This is "Auto Format Options." Click on that and a pop-up screen

shows a list titled Replace as you type. The first option says "Replace Ordinal (1st) with superscript.

I unticked the box, scrolled down and clicked OK, and Voila it worked.

    Hello!

I'm Yasllame. I'm here to help and clarify.

This answer has been translated automatically. As a result, there may be grammatical errors or strange words.

    What is causing automatic capitalization?

In Windows 11, some languages and keyboard layouts activate automatic capitalization rules when they detect:

    New line

    Start of sentence

    Use of language-based autocorrect

When you press Enter and start a new line, the system interprets it as the start of a sentence and forces the first letter to be capitalized as soon as you press Space.

How to fix (official and functional solutions)

Option 1 — Disable automatic corrections in Windows 11 (recommended)

    Open Settings

    Go to Time & Language

    Click on Typing

    Disable the following options:

“Show text suggestions as you type”

    “Autocorrect misspelled words”

“Automatically capitalize the first letter of sentences” (if available in your language)

These options control exactly this behavior in the web editor.

Option 2 — Check the keyboard language

    Settings → Time & Language

    Language & region

    Under Keyboards, check:

If more than one language is active

If you are using a layout that applies advanced autocorrect

    If possible, temporarily test:

    English (US)

    Default Portuguese (Brazil)

    Then, test again on Outlook.com.

Option 3 — Confirm if the problem occurs only in the browser

    Test:

Another browser (Edge, Chrome, or Firefox)

    Incognito window

If the problem does not occur in another browser, it may be related to:

    Grammar correction extensions

    Language extensions

    Assisted writing tools

Temporarily disable these extensions to test.

    Important note

In Outlook for desktop (classic), this setting exists and can be controlled in Word options (Editor).

In Outlook.com (Hotmail), there is no built-in control, as the editor is browser-based.

I hope this information has been helpful! If you need anything else, I'm here.

    Sincerely,

To stop the automatic capitalization of the first letter of the next line in Outlook (Hotmail), you can adjust the settings while composing an email. Here’s how you can do it:

    1. When you are composing a new email or replying to an email, look for a toolbar near the top of your screen that includes options like Delete, Archive, Report, etc.
    2. On the far-right end of that toolbar, there should be a small upside-down triangle icon. Click on this icon to expand the toolbar if it is not already expanded.
    3. Click on the word "Message" in the top row of options, then select "Editor" at the far right.
    4. From there, click on "Editor Settings" and look for the option labeled "Enable Auto Capitalization." You should turn this option OFF.

Make sure to perform these steps while you are actively composing a message, as the settings will not be accessible if you are just viewing emails. This should help resolve the issue of unwanted capitalization after pressing the space bar.
