There were several "Built-In Building Blocks" files in the MS Word folder. I deleted them all.

I was able to insert a page number using Shift+Option+P on the document with the page number issue.

The Word application is up to date.

I was able to create a page number on a new document.

    I will try rebooting again.

If you're unable to add page numbers to your Word document on Mac, it could be due to a corrupted file or an issue with the application itself. Here are some steps you can try to resolve the issue:

    1. Delete the Built-In Building Blocks File: Sometimes, the file that holds the page numbering options can become corrupted. Close Word and delete the file named "Built-In Building Blocks.dotx". This file is often found in the Microsoft Word folder in your user library.
    2. Insert Page Number Manually: You can insert a PAGE field for a page number at the current location by pressing Shift + Alt + P.
    3. Check for Software Issues: Ensure that your Word application is up to date. Sometimes, reinstalling or updating the software can fix unexpected behavior.
    4. Test with a New Document: Create a new document and try to insert page numbers there. This can help determine if the issue is with the specific document or with Word itself.
    5. Restart Your Computer: Although you've mentioned rebooting, ensure that all applications are closed before restarting your iMac to clear any potential issues.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, you may need to consider troubleshooting further or contacting Microsoft support for assistance.
