How do I rip a cd to computer to include the song titles on the cd?

I used to rip cd's to my computer with WM player. Since the last upgrade to 25H2 I noticed that the song titles are no longer auto filling when I put my cd into my external cd drive. Did something change? I now have to manually title all the songs? Very annoying and a lot of extra work from my legacy wm player. Is there a fix for this? Thanks in advance

Hello Bob Hammer, welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum.

From other user discussions online, on newer Windows 11 versions, Windows Media Player no longer pulls track titles automatically when ripping audio CDs. Microsoft retired the online CD metadata lookup that WMP relied on, so titles no longer auto‑populate and there is no supported way to restore that behavior.

If you want to keep using WMP, manual entry is the only option. Otherwise, these are the practical alternatives:

    • Use a third‑party ripper that still queries online databases, such as Exact Audio Copy, foobar2000, MediaMonkey, or iTunes.
    • Rip the CD with another tool, then edit or verify tags afterward with a tag editor.

It seems that the issue you are experiencing with Windows Media Player (WMP) not auto-filling song titles when ripping CDs may be related to changes in the software or settings after the upgrade to 25H2. Here are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

    1. Check Internet Connection: Ensure that your computer is connected to the internet, as WMP needs to access online databases to retrieve song information.
    2. Update Media Player Settings: Go to the options in Windows Media Player and check the settings related to ripping CDs. Make sure that the option to retrieve album information from the internet is enabled.
    3. Use Legacy WMP Features: If you were using an older version of WMP that had specific features for ripping, you might want to explore if those features are still available or if there are updates that could restore them.
    4. Manual Entry: As a temporary solution, you can manually enter the song titles while ripping, although this is less convenient.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, you may want to consider using a different media player that supports CD ripping with automatic song title retrieval or check for any updates or patches for WMP that may address this issue.
