If Word is not opening and you receive an error message stating that it is preventing it from working correctly, and the repair option does not resolve the issue, you can try the following steps:

    1. Exit all Office applications. Make sure that no Office applications are running in the background.
    2. Perform an Online Repair:
      • Open the Settings app (gear icon on your Start Menu).
      • Go to Apps, then scroll down to find Microsoft Office.
      • Select it and choose Modify > Online Repair.
This process may take some time and often includes a reinstallation of Office.
    3. Uninstall and Reinstall Office: If the Online Repair does not work, you may need to completely uninstall Office:
      • Go to Apps & Features or Programs and Features and uninstall Office.
      • Restart your computer (not just shut down, but a full restart).
      • After restarting, download and reinstall Office from your Microsoft account at account.microsoft.com/services.

These steps should help resolve the issue with Word not opening due to the error message you are encountering.

Repair Now often won't be sufficient.

Instead, exit all Office applications and run an Online Repair. See https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/repair-an-office-application-7821d4b6-7c1d-4205-aa0e-a6b40c5bb88b .

Before you begin, ensure that you can access your account at https://account.microsoft.com/services and that Office is associated with it.
