    Dear @CHERRY MAE PANONCE

Welcome to the Microsoft Q&A Community!

Thank you for contacting support. I understand you are currently unable to open documents in Microsoft Word. You mentioned that the message indicates Microsoft Word cannot find the license required to open the application. I understand how disruptive this can be, especially since the product previously worked without issue. To identify the cause and restore access, I will need some additional information and would like you to perform a few initial checks.

    1. As you used the tag "for Business", may I have your reconfirmation if you are signed in with a personal account (e.g., @hotmail.com, @outlook.com), an education account (e.g., @school.edu), or a work account (e.g., @yourcompany.com)? Are you signed in to the account that used to have license?
    2. Please let me know if there have been recent updates to Windows, changes to your Microsoft account, password resets, removal of old profiles, or installation of a new version of Office.
    3. Have you recently reinstalled Windows, restored the device from backup, or performed a reset?  Licenses can be removed during such processes.
    4. Are other Office apps such as Excel or PowerPoint working normally? Please provide Word version and build number if available: Word > File > Account > About Word.
    5. May I know your Windows version as well? Kindly check under Settings > Windows Update > Update history.

Please proceed through the following basic steps in order. These are safe, reversible, and resolve the most common causes.

    Restart Windows

Check Your Subscription and Sign‑In Status

Please confirm that your license is active and that you’re signed in with the correct account.

    • Go to the official Microsoft Account services page
    • Sign in and verify that your Microsoft 365 or Office subscription appears and is marked as Active (not expired).
    • Sign Out and Sign Back In
    1. Open any Office app (such as Word or Excel).
    2. Select File > Account.
    3. Under User Information, select Sign out.
    4. Close all Office applications completely.
    5. Reopen an Office app and sign in again using the same Microsoft account that owns the active license.

    Repair Office (for Windows 10&11)

Navigate to Windows Settings > Apps > Installed apps > Microsoft 365 (or Office) > Modify. Run Quick Repair first. If the issue persists, run Online Repair. Note that Online Repair may take longer and requires internet connectivity. For more details, please refer to this article Repair an Office application - Microsoft Support

Please refer to this article for possible solutions: Unlicensed Product and activation errors in Office - Microsoft Support

In case the issue persists after the given steps, please reply with the requested details and which of the steps above you have completed, including the results of each test. I look forward to your update so we can resolve this promptly.
