    Hi Tina B

Thanks for posting in the Microsoft Q&A Forum!

I’m really sorry you’re running into this. It’s incredibly frustrating when PowerDirector starts crashing right in the middle of a project, especially after everything was working fine earlier.

Based on similar reports, crashes that happen specifically when adding Media Stock halfway through a video usually point to one of a few common causes, and thankfully, most have fixes that has helped other people, which you can refer to and see if it helps:

    1. Turn Off Hardware Acceleration

PowerDirector can become unstable when decoding or encoding certain Media Stock clips with GPU acceleration.

    Try turning off:

    • Hardware decoding
    • OpenCL
    • Hardware video encoder

Preferences → Hardware Acceleration → uncheck all three

    2. Delete Shadow Files

Shadow files often corrupt mid‑project, especially in long timelines.

    Steps:

    1. Close PowerDirector
    2. Go to: C:\Users\[YourName]\AppData\Roaming\CyberLink\PowerDirector\[Version]\ShadowEditFiles
    3. Delete everything inside
    4. Reopen PD and try again

You can also disable shadow files entirely in Preferences → General.

    3. Update or Roll Back Your Graphics Driver

If your GPU driver updated recently, that can trigger crashes with Media Stock. If it didn’t update recently, it may simply be outdated.

Updating or rolling back often stabilizes things.

    4. Check Whether the Specific Media Stock Clip Is the Problem

Some stock clips use codecs PowerDirector doesn’t love.

    Try:

    • Importing a different Media Stock clip
    • Adding the problem clip in a brand‑new empty project
    • Converting the clip externally (e.g., HandBrake) before importing

If it works only in a clean project, your original project might be partially corrupted.

    5. Reinstall PowerDirector

A full uninstall + reinstall can fix deeper component corruption if none of the above helps.

Hope these can help. If anything is unclear, feel free to let me know.
