In windows 11, outlook downloads over 200 old emails plus any new emails, when I open it, in the process of deleting them all it usually freezes up, I stop the program in manager and when I open it again it starts downloading them again

To stop Outlook from re-downloading deleted messages, you can try the following steps:

    1. Check your email account settings: Ensure that your account is set up to use IMAP instead of POP3. IMAP synchronizes your email with the server, while POP3 downloads emails and may not reflect deletions properly.
    2. Clear the cache: Sometimes, clearing the cache can help. You can do this by going to the File menu, selecting Options, then Advanced, and under the Outlook start and exit section, click on Empty Auto-Complete List.
    3. Repair Outlook: If Outlook is freezing, you may need to repair your Microsoft 365 programs. You can do this through the Control Panel under Programs and Features. Select Microsoft Office and choose the Repair option.
    4. Use the Classic Outlook Advanced Diagnostics troubleshooter: This tool can help identify issues that may be causing Outlook to misbehave. Note that it does not work with the new Outlook for Windows.
    5. Check for add-ins: Sometimes, add-ins can interfere with Outlook's performance. Try starting Outlook in safe mode (by running Outlook.exe /safe) and see if the problem persists. If it doesn't, consider disabling add-ins one by one to find the culprit.
    6. Manage mailbox size: If your mailbox is too large, it may cause performance issues. Consider archiving old emails or moving them to separate folders to reduce the size of your mailbox.

By following these steps, you should be able to prevent Outlook from re-downloading deleted messages and improve its performance.
