I have been having trouble with my headphones lately. I have plugged them in but they have not been giving sound.

My wired headphones aren't giving me sound. When I plug them in, I can't hear anything. I also can't hear when I unplug them either. On the bottom right of my screen, (near the time) I see a sound symbol with an x at the bottom. I have looked into this, but when I try to turn the volume up, nothing happens and it stays as 0. I am becoming frustrated in this, as it has been happening for several days now.

Hi. I'm David, and I'm happy to help you.

    Please clarify the following:

Do your headphones have a standard audio connector (Jack connector) or a USB connector, or are they connected via Bluetooth?

Also, share a screenshot of your system information.

    • Press "Windows + R", type msinfo32 and press Enter.

Maximize the window and use the shortcut "Windows + Shift + S" to use the screenshot tool.

    I await your reply.

It sounds like you're experiencing issues with your audio output on Windows. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot the problem:

    1. Check Connections: Ensure that your headphones are properly plugged into the audio jack. If they are connected but still not working, try unplugging and re-plugging them.
    2. Volume Control: Since you mentioned that the volume stays at 0, check if your headphones have a physical volume control and ensure it is turned up. Also, check the volume settings in Windows by right-clicking the sound icon in the taskbar and selecting "Open Volume Mixer".
    3. Sound Settings: Go to Settings > System > Sound and make sure your headphones are selected as the output device. If they are not listed, right-click in the Sound Control Panel and choose "Show Disabled Devices" to see if they are disabled.
    4. Device Manager: Open Device Manager and check for any issues with audio drivers. You can try uninstalling the audio device and then restarting your computer to let Windows reinstall the driver.
    5. Windows Update: Ensure that your Windows is up to date. Sometimes, audio issues can be resolved with the latest updates. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and check for updates.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, there may be a hardware problem with your headphones or the audio jack itself.
