How to fix keyboard lag in Windows 11 Home on new HP Laptop

Have new HP Laptop running Windows 11 Home version 25H2 OS Build 26200.7623.

I am experiencing extreme keyboard lag. I have researched and tried numerous fixes adjusting settings, registry keys, moving dongles, etc.... NOTHING HAS WORKED.

Can someone from Microsoft tech support please post how to correct this issue, it has been a waste of time trying all the "fixes" posted on various sites.

This is severely impacting productivity!!!!!

FYI -- The following locked me out of my laptop as when booted up it wanted my PIN but indicated I needed to change it. When click on the "setup new PIN" it wouldn't go anywhere, kept on signin screen. Only way to get back in was "esc" key then PF11 while booting and going in to the "CMD" to delete the safemode...

I'm fairly tech savvy but others may not be and would have been locked out of their laptops...

Boot Safe Mode to test (cleanest isolation)

    • Press Win + R > run msconfig
    • Go to the Boot tab and check Safe boot under Boot options.
    • Select Minimal for Safe Mode or Network for Safe Mode with Networking.
    • Click Apply, then OK, and restart your PC.

Unfortunately, I have not been able to resolve the issue, everything tried has been futile.

Keyboard lag and freezing up for several seconds when I open up various apps, Word 2024, Excel 2024, etc. where I insert data or type.

    ETREMELY frustrating.

    Dear @Al W,

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.

We apologize for any inconvenience you may encounter when using our services/ products. Based on your description, kindly try these following steps:

Update the keyboard (and related) drivers in Device Manager

    • Search Device Manager > expand relevant device category > open device Driver tab > Update Driver.

Run the Keyboard troubleshooter (or Get Help keyboard troubleshooter)

    • Go to Settings > System > Troubleshooter > Additional/Other troubleshooters (run Keyboard if available).

If the keyboard lag disappears in Safe Mode, it strongly indicates a third‑party driver/service/startup item.

Perform a Clean Boot / try a new local admin account

Visit HP Support and install the latest BIOS/firmware and keyboard/trackpad drivers for your exact laptop model.

Make sure Windows Update is updated. Settings → Windows Update → Check for updates

Boot into Safe Mode and check if the keyboard lags here. If lag disappears, a third‑party driver or background process is interfering. In that case Perform a Clean Boot.

How to perform a clean boot in Windows

    Disabling "Filter Keys"

Settings → Accessibility → Keyboard → Filter Keys → Off

    Run HP Diagnostics
