Local Outlook Needs Repair

I think my local Outlook is munged. I made a change to a Registry key as instructed, and now it shows the startup (splash?) screen, says it's "loading profile", but never moves from there.

Is there a repair facility, or do I have to search for a backup of my registry? Or might something else be wrong?

If your Outlook is stuck on the "loading profile" screen after making changes to the Registry, you can try repairing your Office installation. Here are the steps to do so:

    1. Exit any Microsoft Office programs that are running.
    2. Open Control Panel, and then go to Programs and Features (this applies to Windows 10, Windows 8, or Windows 7).
    3. In the list of installed programs, right-click on Microsoft Office 2016, Microsoft Office 2013, or Microsoft Office 2010, and then select Repair.

This repair process can help resolve issues like the one you're experiencing without needing to restore your registry from a backup.

If the repair does not resolve the issue, you might also consider using the Inbox repair tool (scanpst.exe) to check and repair your Outlook data files.
