I have Microsoft office 365 family edition. It comes with copilot for the account holder but only the basic version. Can i upgrade to a higher version of copilot and how?

Regarding your issue, you can upgrade within the consumer Copilot options, but you cannot upgrade Microsoft 365 Family to the business version of Copilot.

Microsoft 365 Family is a consumer subscription. The Copilot included with it is also the consumer version, which has usage limits and fewer advanced capabilities. Microsoft documents that Copilot features and limits depend on the subscription type, and that Personal, Family, and Premium plans fall under consumer licensing, not business licensing.

Copilot is now included in Microsoft 365 Personal and Family

Because of this, Microsoft 365 Family cannot be upgraded to Microsoft 365 Copilot (business). The business Copilot requires a Microsoft 365 Business or Enterprise base license and a work or school account (Microsoft Entra ID), which consumer plans do not provide.

I have had high regard for Microsoft. I thought it's a big company. I thought the sign up will be as seamless as Google and anywhere else, which even the new startup like Claude AI, but I have never found their products so confusing.

I had subscribed to Microsoft 365 family for a long time. Suddenly, because I thought I just want to give Copilot a try, I thought I could just get it through the only option available to me, which is Microsoft 365 premium. Lo and behold, I'm stuck here and I couldn't upgrade to Microsoft 365 Copilot.

How confusing a big company like Microsoft can make their services be it is just amazing. The services are not thought through. I just ended up signing up for Gemini and all the offerings and upgrades are so clear, and I do not get stuck at all for a paying customer like me.

My question to Microsoft is: why do you want to trap people who want to pay you more money and make it so difficult for people to upgrade from Microsoft 365 Premiere to Microsoft 365 Copilot? I've asked Copilot many times. The Copilot has no answer. Such is Microsoft Copilot!!!
