If your arrow keys are malfunctioning and causing unpredictable cursor movement, there are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

    1. Check for External Interference: Sometimes, third-party applications can interfere with keyboard functionality. Boot your computer in Safe Mode to see if the arrow keys work correctly there. If they do, a third-party app may be the cause.
    2. Keyboard Settings: Ensure that your keyboard settings are configured correctly. You can check the settings in your operating system to see if any accessibility features are affecting keyboard behavior.
    3. Update Drivers: Make sure your keyboard drivers are up to date. You can check for updates through the Device Manager on Windows.
    4. Test with Another Keyboard: If possible, try using a different keyboard to determine if the issue is hardware-related. If the new keyboard works fine, the original keyboard may need repair or replacement.
    5. Clean the Keyboard: Sometimes, debris under the keys can cause erratic behavior. Use compressed air to blow out any debris and wipe the keys with a slightly damp microfiber cloth.

By following these steps, you should be able to identify and potentially fix the issue with your arrow keys.

    Hi @D ARM

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.

Regarding your issue, when arrow keys do not move the cursor line‑by‑line and instead jump text or behave unpredictably, this is usually related to keyboard settings, accessibility features, drivers, or input conflicts.

Here are a few steps you can try:

    1. Check Sticky Keys / Filter Keys
    • Go to Settings > Accessibility > Keyboard
    • Make sure Sticky Keys = Off
    • Make sure Filter Keys = Off
    • Click Keyboard shortcuts inside those menus and disable them as well
    1. Disable Fast Startup
    • Go to Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do.
    • Click Change settings that are currently unavailable.
    •  User's image
    • Uncheck Turn on fast startup
    • Save changes and restart your device.
    1. Reset Keyboard Drivers (Windows)
    • Right-click the Start button and select Device Manager.
    • Expand Keyboards.
    • Right-click Properties and select Drivers > Uninstall device. (When the confirmation box pops up, do NOT check the box that says "Attempt to remove the driver.)
    • Restart your device by using your mouse or touchpad instead

Hopefully it will help resolve your issue effectively and if you have any other questions or need further assistance, feel free to ask.
