I'm trying to sync Microsoft authenticator in Microsoft edge to my phone. how is this done??

What are you trying to achieve exactly with Edge and Authenticator ? These are two different applications.
If you're referring to the password storage and autofill features, they're not anymore in MS Authenticator anymore. They've moved to Edge. You just need to download the Edge app and log in with your Microsoft account. All of your credentials will be here.
