Unable to delete Azure Backup Vault due to failed Resource Move

I attempted to move an Azure Backup Vault to a new Subscription in Azure. This failed as it timed out after 4 hours and didn't move.

I am now trying to delete the Vault so I can recreate it in the new subscription, however I am getting the error below:

  • Error Code: ResourceMoveOperationInProgress
Message: "Cannot execute the operation as ResourceMove Operation is in progress. Please retry the operation after the ResourceMove Operation has completed. If the issue persists, please contact Microsoft support."

All items were removed from the Vault before attempting to move it and I have read through all of Microsoft's articles relating to deleting Vaults.

Can someone from the Azure support team get in contact ASAP to resolve this issue with the Azure backend.

    Hello Redstripe Admin

Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Q&A platform.

We have an update that the PG team have fixed the issue and have started rolling it out to the production regions. The production rollout is expected to complete by end of day, 26th January (IST). On 27th January, they will reset all Vaults that failed during the Resource Move operation.

Affected customers can retry and complete the Resource Move operation starting 28th January.

For customers whose Vaults have already been reset, retries can be attempted starting 27th January.

So, fix for this issue has been deployed today, So could you please try again to delete the vault and let me know if the issue has been resolved or not?

    Thanks,

    Suchitra.

    Hi ,

Thanks for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A.

This is a backend lock issue. The failed cross sub move has left the Backup Vault in a stuck ResourceMoveOperationInProgress state, and you cannot clear this from the portal, CLI, or PowerShell. Waiting rarely helps once it is stuck beyond a few hours. The only resolution is to raise an Azure Support ticket under Subscription management -> Resource move issues and ask Microsoft to cancel or purge the failed move operation from the backend. Support has to manually release the move lock; deletion or retry will not work until that happens.
