How to block Copilot from use in Word version 16.83 ?

I use my fourth Mac, a MacMini, OS 15.7.3 running Microsoft 365. I have used MS Word since 1997, I've lived with and overcome most bugs/gremlins until Copilot was introduced. Since it's introduction, I'm not in charge of what I want to express, I seem to be constantly fighting to type what I want but success in achieving that goal is causing me to resort to bad language. I read (very recently) where Word version 18.63 has the provision to turn off Copilot. I tried to upgrade to v 18.63 but no go, "Error 44" So:

Q1: What is Error 44 ?

Q2: What can I do to block/stop/delete Copilot ?

Were I a priest of some sort, I'd call down a pox on AI !

To block or stop the use of Copilot in Microsoft Word, you can try the following steps:

    1. Disable Copilot: Go to the File menu, select Options, and look for the Copilot settings. Uncheck any options related to Copilot.
    2. Update Microsoft Word: Ensure that you are using the latest version of Word. The 16.103.1 update has been reported to help remove the Copilot icon from the interface. If you're unable to upgrade to version 18.63 due to "Error 44," you may need to troubleshoot the update process or check for compatibility issues with your Mac OS.
    3. Check Privacy Settings: Sometimes, Copilot can be blocked by privacy settings. Ensure that your privacy settings allow for connected experiences.

Regarding "Error 44," this error typically indicates an issue with the update process, which could be related to network connectivity, permissions, or compatibility with your operating system. You may want to check Microsoft's support documentation or forums for specific guidance on resolving this error.
