Same problem here, but I have discovered that turning "Use graphics acceleration when available" off solved the issue, at least for now.

An educated guess - there may be some issue with the GPU process (WindowServer).

    Supplement to WCR's solution:

    Previous versions path:

    ~/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/EdgeUpdater/apps/msedge-stable/

    or

    /Users/{your_user_name}/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/EdgeUpdater/apps/msedge-stable/

Make sure your_user_name is replaced with your actual user name :D
    Detailed steps:

    1. Copy the old version before 144.0.3719.82 like 143.0.3650.139 to /Applications/, then rename it to Microsoft Edge_143.app. (The newly updated 144.0.3719.92 also has the same problem.)
    2. Quit Microsoft Edge.app.
    3. Open Microsoft Edge_143.app.
    4. Your opened tabs will remain.
    5. If you have a process-level firewall, ensure that EdgeUpdater is not allowed to access the network to prevent automatic updates. (Path: ~/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/EdgeUpdater/145.0.3785.0/EdgeUpdater.app/Contents/MacOS/EdgeUpdater on macOS 15.7 Apple Silicon) Or try Stop Microsoft Edge Auto Update | MacRumors Forums.

If the previous version's packages were deleted or auto-updated by accident

    download 143 from https://msedge.sf.dl.delivery.mp.microsoft.com/filestreamingservice/files/baac52e6-2ffc-4cf9-a792-93bcb485bdc9/MicrosoftEdge-143.0.3650.139.dmg

Following WCR comment, the usage went from over 100% to under 10%.. huge difference. I was also on build Build 144.0.3719.82 and rolled back to 143.0.3650.139

I've solved it by switching to a different Chromium-based browser.

I wake up to find my laptop overheating in the mornings, which may reduce battery life. This is unacceptable.
