If your Microsoft student account works online but not with the desktop apps, there could be several reasons for this issue. Here are some common troubleshooting steps you can take:

    1. Check for Updates: Ensure that your Microsoft Office desktop applications are up to date. Sometimes, outdated versions can cause sign-in issues.
    2. Clear Credentials: You might need to clear any stored credentials related to your Microsoft account on your device. This can be done through the Credential Manager in Windows.
    3. Security Software: If you have security software installed, it might be interfering with the sign-in process. Try temporarily disabling it to see if that resolves the issue.
    4. WAM Plug-ins: If the issue is caused by a broken or tampered Windows Authentication Manager (WAM) plug-in, you may need to reinstall the WAM plug-ins. This can be done using PowerShell commands to register the necessary components again.
    5. Local Account Conversion: Some users have found success by converting their Microsoft account to a local account and then back to a Microsoft account. This can sometimes reset any underlying issues with the account linkage.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, you may want to contact Microsoft Support for further assistance.
