I am the only Global Administrator and have lost access to the Microsoft 365 Admin Centre.

How doI contact the Account recovery team to get this sorted? I have tried phoning three times but can't get a support person.

    Dear @Margaret Holmes,

Thank you for contacting the Microsoft 365 Q&A Forum Community Support team. I understand the gravity of being locked out of your tenant as the sole Global Administrator. This is a critical situation, and I want to help you navigate the correct path to the Microsoft Data Protection Team, which is the only group authorized to verify your identity and restore access. Microsoft’s phone support uses an automated AI assistant. If you mention "password reset" or "technical support," the system often redirects you to online self-help articles, which you cannot use because you are locked out.

As a member of the community support team, I’m limited in my ability to access or make changes within your administrator account. For security and privacy reasons, only Microsoft’s dedicated support team has the necessary tools and authorization to assist with account-level issues such as resetting or troubleshooting deep within your account.   To bypass the automated loop and reach the Data Protection Team, please follow these steps precisely:

Option 1: Contact Microsoft Support by Phone

If you are unable to access the Microsoft 365 admin center, you can contact Microsoft Support directly.

Find the appropriate phone number for your region here: Customer service phone numbers - Microsoft Support

To help you navigate the automated phone system (IVR), here’s an example of how the conversation might go:

    • IVR: What kind of problem are you concerned about?   You: Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)
    • IVR: What kind of product do you use?   You: Office 365 for business
    • IVR: Education or business account?   You: For business
    • IVR: Are you an administrator?   You: Yes
    • IVR: Do you have another administrator in your organization?   You: No
    • IVR: Do you need a service request?   You: Yes

This should help you get connected to a live support agent who can assist you directly.

Note: Sometimes, you would hear the computer-generated voice at first, please kindly wait for it to end, and if an agent is available, you would be directed to them and get your support. During peak hours, there might be high call volumes, so we kindly ask for your patience as we work to assist everyone as quickly as possible

Option 2: Create a Temporary Tenant to Submit a Support Ticket

Important: Please remember to cancel the trial subscription once your issue is resolved to avoid any charges.

If your organization's Office 365 Business/Education subscription is from a partner or reseller, and the global administrator is unable to open a service request on your end, contact the reseller's support provider to help open a service request on behalf of you instead.

I hope the above information is clear. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. Please let me know how it goes after trying the steps above. I’m here to help further if needed.

If you are the only Global Administrator and have lost access to the Microsoft 365 Admin Center, you can contact the Azure Data Protection team for assistance. Here are the steps you can follow:

    1. Contact Azure Data Protection Team: Call the Azure Data Protection team at +1 866-807-5850. Make sure to explain that you are the only admin and have lost access to your account.
    2. Provide Necessary Information: During the call, provide all relevant details regarding your issue to help the support team assist you effectively.

If you continue to have trouble reaching a support person, consider creating a temporary account by signing up for a trial subscription. This will allow you to access the admin console of the new tenant and submit a support ticket requesting to speak with the Data Protection team on behalf of your previous tenant.

I hope this helps you regain access to your account quickly.
