Microsoft: who asked for this? Nobody asked for this. This looks terrible. It looks awful. Why are you making things WORSE? Did AI tell you to do this? Was this CoPilot? This looks completely stupid. Why are you taking things that work perfectly fine and making them completely stupid?

I run Office 365 on 3 Windows PCs and only one updated to the new round to-do buttons. How can I update the other 2 PCs?

By the way, are you using OneNote for Microsoft 365 on your Windows PC, or the OneNote app from Microsoft Store?

What you are seeing lines up with a recent OneNote update on Windows. Microsoft updates OneNote on Windows more often than on Android, so visual changes like checkboxes turning into circles show up on PC first. Each platform handles formatting differently, even when you use the same account. This change likely came with the January 22, 2026 Office or OneNote update, not with a Windows system update. Your notes are not damaged. This is a display change only. Once the Android app receives the same update, the icons should match.

Round buttons are radio buttons and square buttons are selection controls.

I have had all my organisations templates for years of data collection & to save time for our engineers flushed down the toilet by this change which, whoever came up with the idea should be prevented from ever changing anything within Microsoft ever again.

Has anyone seen the details of the OneNote update changes anywhere, where they are logged & made clear to all who may be testing Microsoft updates before they are rolled out across organisations? I tried to look for the details of what is a fundamental front end Home tab change to the Microsoft Office OneNote build update but have not seen anything

I guess we will never really find out & just have opinions but one facts is clear. I have never had such slow office applications with typing text delayed for 3 to 5 seconds the other night & have already had to shut down & restart OneNote Desktop for Office 365 about 4 or 5 times already this morning. Not sure what they have done in the background that according to MS tech support we minions don't have a say in how our data transposes onto a screen or a pdf.
