On 24.01.2026, someone accessed my Microsoft account. The intruder immediately changed my password and deleted all security information, including my recovery email addresses and phone numbers. Because the attacker enabled Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) using their own device/app, I am currently locked out of all standard recovery methods. How can I get my account back?

To recover your Microsoft account after it has been compromised and all security information has been deleted, you will need to follow these steps:

    1. Use the Microsoft Account Recovery Form: Go to the official recovery form at https://account.live.com/acsr. Fill in your email address and follow the prompts. Provide as much accurate information as possible to verify your identity.
    2. Provide Detailed Information: Since the attacker has removed your recovery options, you should include any relevant information you remember about your account, such as:
      • Previous passwords you used.
      • Details about recent emails you sent or received.
      • Any purchases made with the account.
      • Devices you used to access the account.
    3. Wait for Verification: After submitting the recovery form, Microsoft will review your request. This process may take some time, and you may need to wait for them to verify your identity.
    4. Contact Microsoft Support: If the recovery form does not work, you may need to contact Microsoft Support directly for further assistance. You can do this by visiting the support page and selecting the appropriate options for account recovery.

Please note that recovering a hacked account can be challenging, especially if the attacker has changed all security information. It is crucial to provide as much detail as possible to prove ownership of the account.

    Hi Ionut Daniel

Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A Forum. I'm really sorry this happened to you, having someone take over your Microsoft account and replace your security info is extremely stressful, especially when they’ve enabled two-step verification with their own device.

Could you confirm if you’ve already tried the steps mentioned in the Q&A Assist reply above? If yes, which steps did you try and what happens?

Can you also let me know what happens when you try to sign in now, do you see "Security info change is still pending" or are you immediately asked for a verification code from the attacker’s authenticator/phone?

Please note that if two‑step verification is turned on and you can’t access any of the alternate verification methods, recovery may not be possible through Account Recovery Form ̣(ACSR) because Microsoft must verify you via those methods. You can see this official guide: Help with the Microsoft account recovery form- Microsoft Support

At this point, you need to contact Microsoft Support directly for further assistance. It may offer live chat and, depending on your subscription/region, an option to request a callback:

    • Go to Contact - Microsoft Support
    • Search for "Account Recovery" in the search box.
    • Click "Get Help", then scroll to the bottom and select "Contact Support”.
    • When prompted to select Products & Services, select "Other Products"; Under Category, select "Manage account security".
    • Look for and select "Chat with a support agent in your web browser" (during business hours) or a similar callback option (if available). Explain your situation clearly. User's image
    • Please note that The Chat support team only works at certain times, so if the last window says you are not available, try to open it again the next day. If you prefer phone support, you can leave a phone number. That way, they can contact you back and help you further.

For more details, you can see these official support links:

Please feel free to let me know how it goes. Thank you for your time and understanding.

Note: Please follow the steps in our documentation to enable e-mail notifications if you want to receive the related email notification for this thread.
