I have been asked to enter my Bitblocker recovery and the keyboard isn’t working for the letters. I’m able to type in numbers. Why is this happening. I need access to my computer for tax purposes as I run a small business. What options do I have?

A Bitlocker key does not contain any alphabetical characters, is it a 48 character numeric code.

If your drive is encrypted with Bitlocker, the only place the Bitlocker Recovery key is automatically stored is on the associated Microsoft account on the link below, be sure to check any Microsoft account that may have been used on the PC and also any work or school account that may be linked to the PC.

Are you able to find the Bitlocker Recovery Key on any account that may have been used or linked to the laptop?

If not, do you have a safe backup of your files, or use a cloud service like OneDrive to sync your files online.

If your keyboard is not working for letters during the BitLocker recovery process, it could be due to a hardware issue or a software conflict. Here are some options you can consider:

    1. Check Keyboard Connection: Ensure that your keyboard is properly connected. If you're using a USB keyboard, try unplugging it and plugging it back in.
    2. Use an External Keyboard: If you have access to an external USB keyboard, connect it to your computer and see if it allows you to type letters.
    3. Try Safe Mode: If you can access Safe Mode, this might help determine if a third-party application is causing the issue. In Safe Mode, only essential drivers are loaded, which may allow your keyboard to function correctly.
    4. Recovery Image: If you cannot access your data due to the BitLocker prompt and the keyboard issue persists, you may need to use a recovery image to reset your device. However, this may result in data loss, so proceed with caution.
    5. Contact Support: If none of the above solutions work, consider reaching out to Microsoft Support for further assistance, especially since you need access for tax purposes.

Make sure to act quickly, as you need access to your computer for your business.
