Hello Sir/Madam,

My humble request to you.

I accidentally deleted my BitLocker recovery keys from my Microsoft account after reinstalling Windows on my PC.

Email associated with the device: <PII removed by a moderator>

After this issue, the following drives are now locked with BitLocker:

  • D:

I:

J:

K:

R:

Only the system drive (C:) is currently accessible.

Please note:

These drives were accessible earlier before the recovery keys were deleted.

I have not formatted, reset, or overwritten any data.

The data is still intact, but inaccessible due to BitLocker lock.

This data is extremely important to me. It contains critical wedding customer data and professional work collected over a long time. Losing this data would cause severe financial and personal damage.

For the last several days, I have been under extreme stress due to this situation. I have not been able to sleep properly, and I am also dealing with health issues including diabetes and severe headaches. This data is my livelihood, and its loss would be devastating.

I respectfully request Microsoft to please check:

Account history

Device history

Azure AD / backup records (if any)

Any internal logs or recovery options

Is there any possible way to restore or retrieve the deleted BitLocker recovery keys linked to my account or device?

I sincerely request your help and guidance in this matter. I trust Microsoft and truly hope you can assist me in resolving this issue.

Thank you very much for your time and support.

Kind regards, Peer Shaikh

    Hello,

If you have deleted the bitlocker key already, there's unfortunately no way to decrypt without the key. Microsoft doesn't keep key copy or have the ability to help without the key. Very sorry.

Unfortunately, if you have deleted your BitLocker recovery keys from your Microsoft account, there is no direct method to restore them. BitLocker recovery keys are designed to be secure and are not recoverable once deleted. Here are some steps you can take to try and regain access to your locked drives:

    1. Check Other Backup Locations: If you had previously saved the recovery keys in other locations, such as printed copies, USB drives, or in a different Microsoft account, check those.
    2. Contact Your Administrator: If your device is managed by an organization, contact your IT department or administrator. They may have access to recovery keys stored in Active Directory or other management tools.
    3. Use Data Recovery Tools: If you are unable to recover the keys, you might consider using professional data recovery services. However, this can be costly and does not guarantee success.
    4. Prevent Future Issues: For future reference, consider saving your recovery keys in multiple secure locations, such as Microsoft Entra ID or AD DS, to avoid similar situations.

Given the importance of the data you mentioned, it is crucial to explore all possible avenues for recovery. Unfortunately, without the recovery keys, accessing the locked drives directly is not feasible.
