Windows 11 Settings app not accessible normally, Redirected Microsoft 365 screens area

I recently purchased a new Windows 11 laptop, and I’m experiencing an unusual issue: the Windows Settings app does not behave normally and appears to be overridden by Microsoft 365 screens.

For example, when I try to open Settings to change system options (like default apps), I am taken to Microsoft 365 subscription pages instead of the actual Windows Settings interface.

With assistance, I found a workaround using Windows + R → ms-settings: or by going through the classic Control Panel, but this is not how Windows 11 is supposed to function.

My question: What is causing the Settings app to be redirected or overridden, and how can I restore normal access to Windows 11 Settings?

Thank you for the quick reply. I want to clarify the issue because the behavior I’m experiencing does not match normal Windows 11 operation, and the steps provided don’t apply to what I’m seeing.

    Clarification of the Problem

My Windows 11 Settings app is not displaying the standard Windows 11 interface at all. Instead, when I try to open Settings to adjust system options, I am redirected to Microsoft 365 subscription screens. This happens even when I attempt to access Settings through normal paths such as:

    • Start menu → Settings
    • Right‑click Start → Settings
    • Searching “Settings”
    • Attempting to open specific Settings pages (e.g., Default Apps, Accounts, System)

In every case, the Settings interface is replaced or overridden by Microsoft 365 UI elements.

Why the suggested steps don’t apply

Your instructions assume I can navigate the Settings app normally, but I cannot:

    • I cannot reach Settings → Apps → Apps & features, because the Settings app never appears.
    • I cannot access Advanced options for the Settings app, because the Settings app itself is inaccessible.
    • This is not a typical corruption issue — it is a redirection problem.
    • This is not a managed device, and there are no Group Policies applied.
    • This is a brand‑new Windows 11 laptop.

    Temporary Workaround

The only way I can reach any Settings pages is by using:

    Windows + R → ms-settings:

This bypasses the normal interface and opens individual Settings pages directly. However, this is not how Windows 11 is supposed to function, and it indicates something deeper is wrong.

    What I need help with

    I’m looking for guidance on:

    • Why the Windows 11 Settings app is being intercepted or overridden by Microsoft 365 screens
    • How to restore the normal Windows 11 Settings interface
    • Whether this is a known issue with certain builds, configurations, or account setups

Any help addressing this specific behavior would be greatly appreciated.Thank you for the quick reply. I want to clarify the issue because the behavior I’m experiencing does not match normal Windows 11 operation, and the steps provided don’t apply to what I’m seeing.

Both ways you are trying to access Settings should get you to the same place, the Settings Home screen.

Was Microsoft 365 pre-installed or have you installed it yourself.?

You can try Settings > System > Recovery > Fix problems using windows update and select Reinstall now. (of course you will need to use the winkey + r meotod to access settings)
