Viva Engage CSV Import Failing — Getting FailedMemberList.csv for All Users

Hello,

I am trying to bulk‑add members to a Viva Engage community using the Import from CSV option. The CSV file uploads successfully, but the import always fails, and I receive a FailedMemberList.csv file every time. No users are added to the community.

Here is what I have already tried:

CSV format set to CSV UTF‑8

One email/UPN per row

No blank rows

No external users or distribution lists

Tried both large and very small test CSV files

Re‑saved the file using Notepad (UTF‑8, no BOM) Despite this, the import fails every time.

I would like to know:

Is there a known issue with CSV import for Viva Engage communities?

2 . Has the CSV bulk‑upload feature been temporarily broken or disabled?

What is the currently supported method for bulk‑adding members to a Viva Engage community (e.g., Microsoft 365 Group / Azure AD Group sync)?

Is there any workaround until the CSV upload function is fixed?

Thank you.

    Hi @Abhiram Bajpai,

    Welcome to Microsoft Q&A Forum.

Thank you for the thorough explanation. I really appreciate the effort you’ve put into checking all the standard causes, yet the error continues to appear. Since this same issue has been reported by many others in the community, it strongly suggests that the problem isn’t with your CSV file but is instead due to a backend service issue, one that can only be fully resolved by Microsoft Support.

Given the nature of the problem, the most effective next step is reaching out to your IT admin and ask them to use their admin credentials to submit a support request through the Microsoft 365 Admin Center. This route ensures that a Microsoft support engineer can initiate a remote session to investigate backend configurations, run advanced diagnostic tools, and, if necessary, escalate the case to specialized teams with access to internal systems and logs. These backend resources are essential for resolving issues that go beyond what’s visible in the user interface.

As community moderators, we’re here to guide you, but due to privacy and security limitations, we don’t have access to the backend tools required for a full resolution. For this reason, contacting Microsoft Support via the Admin Center is the most secure and efficient way forward.

I sincerely recommend your IT admin to create a support ticket from Microsoft 365 Admin Center > Support > Help & Support.

Microsoft also provides customer service phone numbers based on your region. You can find the appropriate contact number here: Customer service phone numbers - Microsoft Support

I hope this helps you resolve the issue quickly. I’m glad to assist and truly hope the information provided has been useful. Please feel free to reach out anytime if you need further assistance.

Thank you for your kindness and contributions to the forum.
