My primary Hotmail alias was deprovisioned during sign-in alias changes.

Incoming mail now hard-bounces with 550 mailbox unavailable.

The address is reserved and cannot be re-added.

I need the Hotmail alias reattached to my existing mailbox.

Hello, thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A.

Could you please confirm whether you accidentally removed your primary alias while changing the sign-in alias on your Microsoft account?

According to the Microsoft documentation, if you remove an alias that ends with @outlook.com or @hotmail.com, you are permanently deleting that email address (alias) from your account. It cannot be added back as an alias or associated with any other Microsoft account.

Unfortunately, once a Hotmail alias is removed from a Microsoft account, it is permanently deleted and cannot be reattached or re-added to the existing mailbox. This means that if your primary Hotmail alias was deprovisioned, you will not be able to recover it. The alias is reserved and cannot be associated with any Microsoft account again, as stated in Microsoft's support documentation.

If you are experiencing issues with incoming mail bouncing back, you may need to update your contacts with your new email address or create a new alias if you wish to continue using a Microsoft email service.
