hi, my refresh rate is defaulted to 60hz and i keep turning it up to 120hz but every time i turn it off or reset my video drivers or it stays on long enough it reverts back to 60hz.

could someone help me or is this just how it is?

Thank you for the detailed information. Based on the spec, your laptop cannot support 4k 120hz. 4K @ 120 Hz requires HDMI 2.1

You can, however try to go for 3440×1440@120 Hz

May I ask what is the graphics card of your computer, and the make and model of your computer's motherboard?

Press Windows + R, type msinfo32, and hit Enter.

In the System Summary section, please provide me the three things below.

    BaseBoard Manufacturer

    BaseBoard Product

    BaseBoard Version

Also, have you also tried using a different cable? What resolution are you using on? What is your monitor?

High refresh rates are mostly seen with 1920x1080 and 2560x1440 panels which stay under DisplayPort bandwidth limits.

3840x2160 high refresh panels are uncommon as video cards struggle to keep up with demanding games.

DisplayPort 2.x is limited to 80 gigabit which is the maximum of Thunderbolt as well. Your might want to get an RTX 5090 to keep up.
