hi, my refresh rate is defaulted to 60hz and i keep turning it up to 120hz but every time i turn it off or reset my video drivers or it stays on long enough it reverts back to 60hz.
could someone help me or is this just how it is?

May I ask what is the graphics card of your computer, and the make and model of your computer's motherboard?

Also, have you also tried using a different cable? What resolution are you using on? What is your monitor?
High refresh rates are mostly seen with 1920x1080 and 2560x1440 panels which stay under DisplayPort bandwidth limits.
3840x2160 high refresh panels are uncommon as video cards struggle to keep up with demanding games.
DisplayPort 2.x is limited to 80 gigabit which is the maximum of Thunderbolt as well. Your might want to get an RTX 5090 to keep up.
