Hi Houda,
Welcome to Microsoft Q&A Forum! Have a good day and I hope you're doing well!
I completely understand how frustrating it is when Outlook freezes and displays "Not responding," especially when you are trying to archive important emails.
Based on my recent experience helping other users with similar symptoms, this issue is likely related to the Windows Update 24H2 (KB5074109) released on January 13, 2026. Microsoft has confirmed that this update can cause Classic Outlook to freeze, fail to close properly, or force you to quit without saving.
This issue primarily affects users with POP email accounts and PST files. You can read more about the confirmed issue here: Microsoft Support - Outlook hangs after Jan 13 Updates.
Fortunately, Microsoft has released an Out-of-band update (KB5078127) specifically to fix this issue.
Please follow these steps to apply the fix:
- Go to Settings > Windows Update.
- Check for updates. You should see KB5078127 available.
- Select Download & install.
- Once installed, restart your computer and try archiving again.
You can find the detailed download instructions and release notes here: January 24, 2026 — KB5078127 Out-of-band
I hope this helps you, at least partially. Please give it a try and let me know the result.
If the issue still persists, please reply with your current Windows OS Build number and confirm which type of email account you are using so I can investigate further and provide the most appropriate troubleshooting steps.
If I misunderstood anything or if anything is unclear, feel free to reach out anytime.
Best regards.
