Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.
I understand that the From field in the new Outlook for Windows keeps disappearing whenever you start a new message, and the addresses you add under From don’t persist after you relaunch Outlook. I recognize the time you have put into re‑enabling this and appreciate the screenshots and careful notes you shared.
In the new Outlook, the compose window follows your Compose and reply settings and the From field will only persist when it is enabled there. The From list itself is populated from mailboxes and aliases that are actually connected to your profile with Send As or Send on behalf permission. Addresses typed through Other email address… are treated as one‑off entries and often drop from the list after the app restarts or the local cache refreshes.
Please follow the steps below to make the From field stay visible and keep your send‑from choices:
1/ Turn on “Always show From” in settings
- In the new Outlook, select the gear icon then choose Mail then Compose and reply then under Message format turn on Always show From then restart Outlook.
- Do the same in Outlook on the web so the setting roams with your account: gear icon then Mail then Compose and reply then enable Always show From.
2/ Add each mailbox the supported way so it persists
- For a shared mailbox you have permission to use, go to Settings then Accounts then Email accounts then Add shared mailbox then enter the mailbox name then Add then restart Outlook.
- For an alias on your own mailbox, confirm the alias exists in your Microsoft 365 account and that Send from aliases is enabled by your admin.
- Once confirmed, open a new message and select From then choose the alias. It should remain in your list going forward.
3/ Refresh the local Outlook cache if the list still disappears
- Select your profile picture in the new Outlook then Sign out then close Outlook then open it again and Sign in.
- If the behavior continues, go to Windows Settings then Apps then Installed apps then Outlook (new) then Advanced options then Repair. If needed, repeat and choose Reset then sign in again.
4/ Test permissions and recent sender caching
- Send one test message from each mailbox or alias in Outlook on the web.
- Reopen the new Outlook and confirm those addresses appear under From. If any address is missing, the account may not be added or the permission may not be applied yet.
- Ask your IT's admin to confirm Send As or Send on behalf permission on that mailbox.
If any step is unclear, share which mailboxes or aliases you are trying to use and I will tailor the next actions to your setup. I am happy to help you get this working the way you expect.
