Hi, I am trying to Install SCOM 2019. On my Windows 11 Insider Preview. I notice it has "Server Manager." Like Windows Server 2019, 2022 etc... I haven't added any Servers to it. (I have Folder and Printer Sharing.) On my Home Network. With (3) Desktops. One Laptop. I don't want to use a Domain. Just Workgroup. So, my question is, Do I have to Install Active Directory to Install SCOM 2019? On my Host Windows 11? Do I have to Promote it to a Domain Controller? I would rather not. I'll have Logs once I start Installing SCOM. Maybe in a new Question... Please reply. Thanks!

You need an Active Directory Domain Services environement to install and use SCOM.
You need a server OS to install it.
    cf: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/system-center/scom/system-requirements?view=sc-om-2019#software-requirements-for-operations-manager-components

If you are looking for a monitoring solution which does not rely on AD but still integrates pretty well with the Microsoft ecosystem, you can have a look at Azure Log Analytics (in Azure Monitor): https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/azure-monitor/logs/log-analytics-overview you can install the agent on a Windows machine to monitor whatever you wanted to monitor with SCOM (perf data, event logs...).

Sounds good. Thanks. I might try on a Windows Server VMware.
