ROBLOX Crashing Entire PC Issue

I have been having this issue for close to a year now where ROBLOX would crash/restart my entire pc within 30 seconds of me joining a game. It used to occur around once a month (some months it didn't even occur at all), so I just brushed it off. However now, it's gotten to a point where I genuinely can't play the game at all. Any game that I try to join on ROBLOX, my pc will crash and restart itself without fail. I don't really know what's causing this or how to fix it. All I know is that this ONLY happens when I try to play ROBLOX, no other game has this issue.

So far I have tried: Clearing the ROBLOX cache and deleting and reinstalling the app, cleaning and reinstalling my graphics drivers, installing the optional updates that my PC offered, and increasing my PC's overclock limit.

Are you running any antivirus or security software, and other programs with anti-cheat systems (like Epic Games titles)?
Are you part of the Windows Insider Program?
Do you use tools like RTSS, MSI Afterburner, or GeForce Experience?
Are you using the Microsoft Store version of Roblox as your launcher? If not, please let me know which one you’re using.
Do you have any other Roblox modifications, such as FPS unlockers or browser extensions?

These programs can sometimes interfere with Roblox and cause crashes or restarts, even if everything else on your PC works fine.

I previously had Malwarebytes installed, however I uninstalled it and that did not fix the issue.

I am not apart of the Windows Insider Program.

I downloaded MSI Afterburner and RTSS today (as of Jan 29), however the issue was occurring beforehand.

I am using the website version of ROBLOX (can be found at https://www.roblox.com/download).

I currently have bloxstrap installed. However, I had previously uninstalled it to test if it was causing this issue and it was not.

Sometimes peripherals can trigger Roblox crashes. Also, kindly check if Windows created any minidump files in C:\Windows\Minidump. Hi! Thank you, in case you have a steering wheel plugged in, disconnect and try it again. Now, please try the following:

Method 1:

Open Command Prompt and run it as administrator.
Type:

sfc /scannow

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

and hit Enter.

Once both commands finish, restart your PC and then try Roblox again.

Method 2:

Temporarily turn off any of these:

MSI Afterburner / RTSS overlays

Discord overlay

NVIDIA GeForce Experience in-game overlay

Antivirus or firewall interfering

Method 3:

Test Without Peripherals. Only keyboard/mouse connected.

Hello! I have being playing for an hour or 2 after doing method 1, and I haven't experienced any crashes yet (hopefully I didn't just jinx myself). Anyways, I will follow-up before or on Sunday (2/1) to confirm if this solution has worked. Thank you for your help so far!

Hello! I have a minor update to this situation. Everything has been great so far. When on 60 FPS, I have experienced 0 crashes, which was not the case before I tried method 1. However, I do still experience crashes whenever I increase the FPS limit within ROBLOX above 60 or when I increase the refresh rate of my monitor above 60 Hz and attempt to play ROBLOX. This was the case before I made this thread and is NOT a result of the solution of method 1. However, I did want to ask if you have a potential fix for this issue too. If not, that is perfectly fine. I really only need 60 FPS for most of the games I play on ROBLOX, although my computer was able to run 120+ FPS (depending on the game I was able to reach the limit of 240 FPS) on most games before this entire initial issue started.

That’s great to hear! Don’t worry, I’ll do my best to help. When you say you increase the FPS limit within Roblox, do you mean the Maximum Frame Rate setting? If not, you can try adjusting that and see if it makes a difference.

Yep! The "Maximum Frame Rate" is the setting I was referring to. If I set that above 60 DPS, my PC will crash.

Thank you for clarifying! Try these:

Windows Settings > System > Display > Graphics

Under Custom settings for application, search for Roblox

Click on Roblox and set the GPU preference to your high-performance GPU

Try playing some simple Roblox games that don’t require heavy rendering to see if the issue still occurs.

A few more questions to help troubleshoot:

When you increase your monitor refresh rate above 60 Hz, do you also change it in your GPU control panel or just in Windows? Based on our conversation, it’s likely you’re using an NVIDIA GPU, but I just want to confirm.

Does your monitor have G-SYNC, FreeSync, or variable refresh rate enabled?

Could you provide the specs of your PC or laptop?

Hello! I tried setting ROBLOX to high-performance, but the problem still occurred.

When I change my refresh rate I do it through windows (Settings > System > Display > Advanced Display Settings).

I know for a fact I do not have FreeSync enabled. As for the other two, I am not 100% sure, as I have never seen those settings (however I am going to assume yes since I know I wouldn't have turned them on anyways).

Specs:

Hi! Thank you for the details. Please try underclocking your GPU, as this issue strongly suggests instability when running above 60 FPS.

Method 1:

Using MSI Afterburner, try to underclock your GPU

Core Clock: –100 MHz

Memory Clock: –200 MHz

Power Limit: leave at default

Apply the changes and reboot your PC.

Method 2:

Adjust NVIDIA Control Panel settings Go to NVIDIA Control Panel > Manage 3D settings > Program Settings > Roblox, then set:

Power management mode: Prefer maximum performance

Low Latency Mode: Off

Vertical Sync: Off

G-SYNC: Disabled (disable globally for testing)

Apply the settings and restart.

If the issue persists, please run a hardware stability test. You can use Unigine Heaven (free) or any similar benchmark, such as 3DMark.

API: DirectX 11

Quality: High

Tessellation: Normal

Fullscreen: Enabled

VSync: Disabled

Resolution: Your monitor’s native resolution

Click Run. Once it starts, do not press Benchmark. Let it run normally with FPS uncapped (it should go above 60) for 5–10 minutes. If it runs without crashing, the GPU is likely stable If the PC freezes, restarts, or shuts down, GPU or PSU instability is confirmed

One more important detail I’d like to check is your PSU model and wattage. Based on the symptoms, crashing only when FPS or refresh rate exceeds 60 Hz. this strongly points to a hardware stability issue, even if other games seem to run normally.

Hi, thanks for the update. Since Method 1 and 2 didn’t work, please proceed with the stability test as described and let me know the result (freeze, restart, or normal run).

Also, please share your PSU brand and wattage. Crashes occurring only above 60 FPS often indicate GPU or power instability. Thank you.

Hello! I completely forgot about this thread. Anyways, I ran the stability test, and as soon as the test fully loaded (like within 3 seconds), my pc crashed and restarted.

And for the PSU and wattage, I assume I have to open up my pc and check, correct?
