unable to read metadata on audio cd, not with media player, not with nero ...
This is currently a widely reported problem, this seems to be either caused by a Windows update or a problem contacting the musicmatch servers Microsoft use the get the album data, there is no reported fix for this yet, the best option is to open the Feedback Hub app and provide feedback to the Windows Developers there, if more people report the problem, they will provide a patch to resolve the problem.
I think it doesn't have anything to do with the musicmatch servers, because metadata like title, artist are available on the cd itself. Even when offline, programs like nero and windows mediaplayer should be able to read them.
Windows Media Player uses the MusicMatch database to get the media data for a CD, it is not read directly from the CD, this is an on-going problem that everyone is experiencing for the last while.
Nero as far as I know uses the GraceNote database to get the CD metadata.
