Adaptive Cards in Microsoft Teams do not support video playback via Media URL – feature request

Hii team,

We are building a solution using Microsoft Copilot Studio and Adaptive Cards published to the Microsoft Teams channel.

In the Copilot Studio test environment (web chat), video playback works correctly when we provide a public video URL in the Media section of an Adaptive Card. However, when the same bot is published to Microsoft Teams, the card fails to render and shows a SystemError, indicating that inline video playback is not supported in Teams.

We understand that Teams currently restricts media rendering in Adaptive Cards, but this creates a functional gap between Copilot Studio testing and real Teams deployment.

Questions / Feature Request

  1. Is the lack of video playback in Adaptive Cards within Teams an intentional design limitation or a known issue?
  2. Are there any plans on the roadmap to support inline video playback via URL in Adaptive Cards for Microsoft Teams?
  3. If not, can Microsoft consider enabling this capability, especially for MP4 / Stream / SharePoint-hosted videos, as it would greatly enhance learning, training, and demo-based copilots?

Currently, the only available workarounds are:

  • Opening videos via Action.OpenUrl
  • Using thumbnails with external playback
  • Implementing Task Modules or custom tabs

While these work, native inline video support inside Adaptive Cards would significantly improve user experience and reduce implementation complexity.

We would appreciate clarification on the official stance and future direction regarding this feature.
