Iphone Passcode

I’ve been curious about something lately – why do I always have to enter my password in Outlook on my iPhone just to authenticate and keep moving forward? It seems a bit tedious!

I used to be able to read an email on my iPhone and then return to my Outlook email without any issues. Now, every time I read an email and go back to Outlook, I'm forced to re-enter my password. Is there any way to avoid this repetition, since I didn't have to enter my password so frequently before?

Any help would be appreciated

Thank you.

    Hello Rosa A

Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A Forum. From

From what you described, Outlook for iOS is repeatedly asking you to re‑enter your password every time you return to the app. I understand repeated sign‑ins on your iPhone can be really disruptive.

    Please try the following steps:

    1. Make sure Background App Refresh is enabled

On your iPhone: Settings > General > Background App Refresh > On, then ensure Outlook is also enabled.

    2. Update Outlook for iOS

    • Go to the App Store > search Outlook > Update (if available)
    • Restart the app

    3. Reset the Outlook mobile app

    • Go to Outlook app on your phone
    • Tap your profile icon (top-left) > Settings > Accounts > Choose your account
    • Scroll down and select Reset Account
    • Sign back in and test again.

    4. Remove and re-add the account

    • In the same place, tap Remove account
    • Close the app completely, then reopen Outlook.
    • Tap Add account, and sign in again.

    5. If it still happens, use in-app support

Please see this official guide: Get in-app help for Outlook for iOS and Android - Microsoft Support

Please feel free to let me know how it goes after trying these steps. Thank you for your understanding and patience.

The issue you're experiencing with having to frequently re-enter your password in Outlook on your iPhone may be related to how the app manages authentication and session persistence. If the app is not able to maintain a continuous connection to your email account, it may prompt you for your password each time you return to it.

One possible reason for this behavior could be related to account inactivity or settings on your device. If the Outlook app is not actively syncing or if background app refresh is disabled, it may lead to the app treating your session as inactive, prompting you to log in again when you return to it. To improve your experience, ensure that background app refresh is enabled for Outlook in your device settings.

Additionally, if you are using an app-specific password, make sure it is entered correctly and that there are no issues with the account settings. If the problem persists, consider uninstalling and reinstalling the app, or checking for any updates that might address this issue.
