Can and how do I change an XBOX account under my email address to that of my child who is now 18 years old? I do not want him to have access to my Microsoft information.

I evidently set up an XBOX account for my minor child a long time ago under my own Microsoft account. That was a disaster. He is now a Family Member and is <PII removed>. He would like access to that XBOX account. I do not want him to have access to my Microsoft account, however. Is it possible to switch the email to his so he can have full access to it? If so, how?

    Hello Bethany Mock,

    Welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum.

Please understand that our forum is a public platform, and we will modify your question to cover your personal information in the description. Please notice to hide these personal or organization information next time you post error or some information to protect personal data.

The Xbox profile is a part of your Microsoft account. So unfortunately, there is no way for you to separate them apart.

However, there is a way for you to work around this. You can add your son's email to this account as the alias and then move your Microsoft account to another new account. That way you can let your son sign in and play with his account while your account moves to a new one. However, you will need to stop any personal subscription on the current account and manually move the email history if you do. So, if you are interested in this, please let me know.

    Thank you for your understanding.

To change the Xbox account associated with your email address to your child's email, you will need to unlink the current account from your Microsoft account and then link it to your child's Microsoft account. Here are the steps you can follow:

    1. Sign in to your Microsoft account: Go to the Microsoft account management page and sign in with your credentials.
    2. Manage Family Settings: Navigate to the family settings section where you can manage family members and their accounts.
    3. Remove the Child Account: If your child's account is currently linked to your Microsoft account, you may need to remove it from your family group. This will allow you to unlink the Xbox account from your Microsoft account.
    4. Create a New Microsoft Account for Your Child: If your child does not already have a Microsoft account, you will need to create one for them using their own email address.
    5. Link the Xbox Account to the New Microsoft Account: Once your child has their Microsoft account, you can link the Xbox account to their new email address. This typically involves signing into the Xbox account and following the prompts to change the email associated with it.
    6. Confirm Changes: Make sure to confirm any changes and ensure that your child can access their Xbox account with their new Microsoft account without having access to your personal information.

If you encounter any issues during this process, you may want to consult Microsoft's support documentation or contact their support team for assistance.
