We need to use outlook classic on 1 of our workstations,

New Outlook loads fine but every time we try to start outlook classic we get the below error

User's image

If we create a new local admin account then Outlook Classic loads fine.

How can we repair this error within the existing windows account as we have so much setup in the existing account.

Regards

Mike

    Hi @Mike Collins,

Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Q&A Forum.

Error 7q6cd occurs when Classic Outlook is unable to complete authentication or load its profile due to corrupted local profile data or missing account linkage.

I appreciate the effort you put into finding your own workaround by creating a new local admin account. I also understand how important your current Windows profile setup is, especially given the amount of configuration you’ve already done.

To help resolve the issue within your existing profile, you can try the following steps:

    1. Repair Office (Classic Outlook component)

    Go to:

    Start > Settings > Apps & Features > Microsoft Office > Modify > Quick Repair > Retest

If Quick Repair doesn’t resolve the issue, run Online Repair, which reinstalls Office while preserving your data.

    1. Clear Outlook’s local cached profile data

Your Windows profile may contain damaged Outlook cache files. Clearing cached data and Outlook temporary folders often helps resolve similar 7q6c‑series errors.

    %localappdata%\Microsoft\Outlook
    %appdata%\Microsoft\Outlook
    %localappdata%\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Wef
    %localappdata%\Microsoft\IdentityCache

Then reboot and try Classic Outlook.

    1. Rebuild the Outlook profile (not the Windows account)

The Outlook Classic profile is separate from your Windows administrator profile. This step will not affect your existing Windows profile or its settings

    1. Open Control Panel > Mail > Show Profiles
    2. Add New Profile
    3. Add your email account(s)
    4. Set new profile as Default

This resolves most Classic Outlook loading failures tied to profile corruption.

If the issue continues, there may be little more you can resolve on your own as an end user if you want to keep the original Windows set up. Given the nature of the problem, the most effective next step is reaching out to your IT admin and ask them to use their admin credentials to submit a support request through the Microsoft 365 Admin Center. This route ensures that a Microsoft support engineer can initiate a remote session to investigate backend configurations, run advanced diagnostic tools, and, if necessary, escalate the case to specialized teams with access to internal systems and logs. These backend resources are essential for resolving issues that go beyond what’s visible in the user interface.

As community moderators, we’re here to guide you, but due to privacy and security limitations, we don’t have access to the backend tools required for a full resolution. For this reason, contacting Microsoft Support via the Admin Center is the most secure and efficient way forward.

I sincerely recommend your IT admin to create a support ticket from Microsoft 365 Admin Center > Support > Help & Support.

Microsoft also provides customer service phone numbers based on your region. You can find the appropriate contact number here: Customer service phone numbers - Microsoft Support

I hope this helps you resolve the issue quickly. I’m glad to assist and truly hope the information provided has been useful. Please feel free to reach out anytime if you need further assistance.
