How to configure Outlook (classic) to receive mail from my GMAIL account BUT not send anything to the Gmail account. I see a lot about syncing but sync to me implies bidirectional. I only want to pass one way.

For many years I have maintained my email history and calendar and contacts in Outlook. My primary email account however is Gmail and it was configured to "pass to Outlook all mail" Outlook never sent back to Gmail. I configured a setting in Gmail to delete email after 30 days.

Suddenly I am finding that the sync concept is maintaining same info in both systems. Really discovered when notice came that Gmail was about to max out unless I bought more space. I consider gmail a very public internet space and DO NOT want some of my outbound or family email available to any wrongdoers. How can I control the one way pass as it used to be?

To configure Outlook (classic) to receive emails from your Gmail account without sending anything back to Gmail, you can set up your Gmail account using IMAP but restrict the sending functionality. Here are the steps you can follow:

    1. Enable IMAP in Gmail:
      • Sign in to your Gmail account using a web browser.
      • Click on the gear icon in the top right corner and select Settings.
      • Go to the Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab.
      • Under IMAP Access, select Enable IMAP and save changes.
    2. Add Gmail Account to Outlook:
      • Open Outlook and go to File > Add Account.
      • Enter your Gmail address and select Connect.
      • When prompted for a password, use your Gmail app password (if you have 2-step verification enabled) or your Gmail password.
      • Complete the setup.
    3. Prevent Sending Emails from Outlook to Gmail:
      • To ensure that Outlook does not send emails to your Gmail account, you can simply avoid configuring the SMTP settings for sending emails. If Outlook prompts you to set up an outgoing server, you can skip this step or configure it with incorrect settings.
      • Alternatively, you can create a rule in Outlook to delete or move any outgoing emails addressed to your Gmail account.

By following these steps, you should be able to receive emails from Gmail in Outlook without sending any emails back to Gmail, thus maintaining a one-way flow of information.
