    Hi Lee Johnstone,

Welcome to the Microsoft Q&A forum.

On the sign‑in screen, check the lower‑left corner for Other user or a list of users. If you see your original local account, select it and enter your usual password.

If the issue is persistent, you can consider this option:

    Start Windows in Safe Mode

    • On the sign‑in screen, select Power.
    • Hold Shift, then select Restart.
    • Choose Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Settings > Restart.
    • When prompted, select 5 - Safe Mode with Networking, then try signing in again.

If the device is linked to an older Microsoft account, the supported recovery option is Microsoft Sign‑in Helper, which checks whether that account can still be accessed or recovered.

Let me know if you need further assistance, feel free to ask me by clicking "Add Comment" or "Add Answer" if you cannot add comment so your response will be visible. Thanks for your effort.

It sounds like your PC is trying to log in with a Microsoft account instead of your local account. To revert back to your local account and bypass the Microsoft account login, you can try the following steps:

    1. Restart your PC and try to access the login screen again.
    2. If you see the option to sign in with a local account, select that option. If not, you may need to reset your password for the Microsoft account that is currently being prompted.
    3. If you cannot access the local account option, you may need to boot into Safe Mode. To do this, restart your PC and press F8 (or Shift + F8) before Windows starts. Select Safe Mode and see if you can log in with your local account.
    4. If you can access your local account in Safe Mode, you can change your account settings back to a local account from there.

If these steps do not work, you may need to consider recovery options or seek further assistance from Microsoft support.
