It appears that you are encountering an issue with invalid credentials when trying to download or open Outlook. This error can occur due to several reasons, including incorrect login information or issues with your Microsoft account.

Here are some steps you can take to resolve the issue:

    1. Check Credentials: Ensure that you are entering the correct email address and password associated with your Microsoft account.
    2. Reset Password: If you suspect that your password may be incorrect, consider resetting it through the Microsoft account recovery process.
    3. Clear Cached Credentials: Sometimes, cached credentials can cause conflicts. You can clear these by going to the Credential Manager in Windows and removing any stored credentials related to Outlook or Microsoft Office.
    4. Reinstall Outlook: If the above steps do not work, try uninstalling and then reinstalling Outlook to ensure that you have the latest version and that all components are properly installed.
    5. Check for Updates: Make sure your Windows operating system and Office applications are up to date, as updates can resolve various issues.

If the problem persists after trying these steps, you may want to reach out to Microsoft support for further assistance.

    Dear P. B. Michael,

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.

The error 657rx with sub-status 6008 is usually related to credential validation issues. Therefore, please kindly clear the cached credentials by the following steps:

1/ Sign Out from All Microsoft Apps

    • Open Microsoft Edge or Office apps
    • Sign out from your old work account and make your personal account the default

2/ Disconnect Work or School account

    • Open Settings > Go to Accounts – Click on Accounts > Access work or school > Locate the Work or School account you want to remove.

3/ Remove the Account from Windows Credentials

Sometimes, Windows stores old login details in the Credential Manager

    • Press Windows + S, type Credential Manager, and open it.
    • Go to Windows Credentials > Look for any entries related to your old work or Microsoft 365 account (e.g., MicrosoftOffice16_Data:
    • Click Remove on those entries

4/ Clear Cached Credentials in the Registry

If the issue persists, there may be cached data in the registry.

    • Press Windows + R, type regedit, and press Enter
    • Navigate to: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\
    • Look for folders/names matching your old work account and delete them

    5/ Clear Outlook Cache Files

    • Press Windows logo key + R to open the Run dialog box.
    • In the Run dialog box, enter the following path, then select OK

    %localappdata%\Microsoft\Outlook

    • Close Outlook
    • Delete all files in the folder (this will remove cached Outlook data, not your mailbox).
    • Restart Outlook.

You are also welcome to refer to how to fix "Something went wrong. [657rx]" - Microsoft Q&A with a similar issue to yours.
