We bought our Office 365 family subscription through Best Buy. We would like to renew it through Microsoft, but the only option we hare given is to go the Best Buy site. We've been advised to let it expire then renew through Microsoft, but I'm concerned I might lost the data I have stored in the cloud with 365. Is there a more sensible way to move to paying Microsoft directly?

    Hello,

If you purchased it from Best Buy, then all billing matters do go through Best Buy, not Microsoft. Microsoft explains it here:
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/account-billing/manage-your-microsoft-365-subscription-purchased-through-a-third-party-44749f45-4c0b-5d41-a73f-7634b8d2a763

So the adivce you got is correct. You would need to let it expire, make sure you don't have auto-renewal on with Best Buy. Then sign up with Microsoft directly.

As long as you use the same Microsoft account to do so, you shouldn't experience data loss. Make sure you time it correctly, so you are not leaving a big time gap between expiration and signing up with Microsoft.

To move your Office 365 subscription from Best Buy to Microsoft directly, you generally have a couple of options:

    1. Contact Microsoft Support: Before letting your subscription expire, reach out to Microsoft Support for guidance. They may provide a way to transfer your subscription without losing access to your data.
    2. Wait for Expiration: If you choose to let your subscription expire, be aware that you have a limited time to back up your data. After cancellation, your subscription enters a Disabled stage for 90 days, during which you can still access and back up your data. However, any data left behind might be deleted after this period.
    3. Backup Your Data: Regardless of the option you choose, it's crucial to back up your data before making any changes to your subscription. This ensures you do not lose any important files during the transition.

It is recommended to explore the first option by contacting Microsoft Support, as they might have specific procedures in place for such transitions without data loss.
