How do I stop att/yahoo from deleting new outlook email folders

I had a lot of problems with Outlook and it took months to fix. It is fixed now, but I have lost a lot of email because apparently when I create a new folder in Outlook email and set rules to transfer some of the email to that folder, it auto deletes by next login. I am certain it has something to do with my att/yahoo email account but can't figure out how to get it to sync so that it accepts changes in my outlook.

I don't like having to go online and log in to get my email so that is why I sync my att email to my desktop Outlook

To resolve the issue of new Outlook email folders being deleted when syncing with your AT&T/Yahoo account, consider the following steps:

    1. Sync Settings: Verify that your Outlook is correctly set up to sync with your AT&T/Yahoo account. Incorrect configurations can lead to issues where changes made in Outlook are not reflected on the Yahoo server.
    2. Review Rules: Examine the rules you have established in Outlook. Ensure they are not causing emails to be moved or deleted unintentionally.
    3. Switch to New Outlook: If you are currently using Classic Outlook, consider transitioning to the new Outlook interface. It may offer better compatibility with your email provider and enhanced features that could help with syncing issues.
    4. Web Access Check: If the problem continues, log into your AT&T/Yahoo account through the web interface to see if the folders are being created there. This can help identify whether the issue lies with Outlook or the Yahoo server.
    5. Seek Support: If the above steps do not resolve the issue, consider reaching out to AT&T/Yahoo support for assistance, as they may have specific solutions for syncing problems with Outlook.

By following these recommendations, you should be able to troubleshoot the issue and prevent your new folders from being deleted during the sync process.

I have tried all of the above but am not sure where to check Outlook sync settings for this specific problem. I did log into my AT&T/Yahoo account through the web interface and new folders are NOT being created there. Does that mean it is a yahoo problem (no tech help there) or can I fix it through my Outlook program

Hi. I'm Brian and I'll try to help.

Since this forum is dedicated to using classic Outlook for Windows, I'll assume that's what you have.

When you click File>Account Settings>Account Settings>Email, what type of account do you have configured? Is it POP or IMAP? If you want syncing to occur, you must use an IMAP account.

I have an IMAP account. I actually have 3 email addresses set up in Outlook. One ATT/Yahoo; one Yahoo.com; and one gmail. So far I have gone online and deleted folders and/or added folders there, and that seems to be the only way to do it. Unfortunately it is long and tedious so I haven't finished the task
