To extend your display from monitor 1 to monitor 2 in Windows 10, follow these steps:

    1. Right-click on the desktop and select Display settings.
    2. In the Display settings window, you will see both of your monitors represented as rectangles. Click on the monitor that you want to extend (usually monitor 1).
    3. Scroll down to the Multiple displays section.
    4. From the dropdown menu, select Extend these displays.
    5. Click Apply to save the changes.
    6. You may need to rearrange the monitors by dragging the rectangles to match their physical arrangement on your desk.
    7. Finally, click Keep changes if everything looks good.

This should change your display from duplicate mode to extended mode, allowing you to use both monitors as a single extended workspace.

When I do right click it does not show the two rectangle monitors as it used to.

What method are you using to connect the monitors to your system, are you using two separate HDMI or DisplayPort cables or a splitter cable?

    2

Right click your Start Button and open Device Manager.

Expand the Display Adapters section, please provide a screenshot of that full Device Manager window.

    Hi Jennifer Valentin,

Thanks for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A Forum. I understand you are having an issue extending your display from monitor 1 to monitor 2 on Windows 10, as it is currently set to duplicate and the display layout no longer shows both monitors.

Since a Q&A Assist suggestion was provided earlier, please confirm whether you have already tried all the Q&A Assist steps. In addition, please try to follow these steps below:

1, Press Windows + P on the keyboard, then select Extend from the projection menu.

2, Press Windows + I > System > Display, scroll down to Advanced display, and check whether both monitors are detected under display information.

3, Right-click Start > Device Manager > Display adapters, right-click the listed adapter, and select Disable device, then right-click it again and select Enable device.

4, In Device Manager > Display adapters, right-click the adapter and select Update driver > Search automatically for drivers.

5, Press Windows + R, type dxdiag, press Enter, then confirm whether the display device information loads without errors.

6, Shut down the PC completely, disconnect the second monitor cable, power on the PC, then reconnect the second monitor cable after Windows finishes loading.
