Got a problem where my headphones mic on the sound control panel are not being detected, I do have one mic being detected which just says Microphone Realtek(R) audio which doesn't detect my audio and one specific mic doesn't come up saying that its from the JBL Quantum 100, also on the playback menu my headphones don't say that they are the JBL Quantum 100 it just says Headphones Realtek Audio(R).

In my case, the system does not show the “which device did you plug in” popup, and Realtek Audio Console is not available on my laptop. When the headset is connected, tapping the headset mic does not register input unless the laptop’s built in microphone array is active.

The same headset mic works correctly on a phone, so the mic itself is functional. This means the headset mic is not being routed by the audio driver on my system.

There is nothing wrong with your laptop.

3.5mm headset mic is NOT a separate device.

Plug in your 3.5mm headset, your laptop asks you "which device did you plug in", select headset. That's it. You are using your headset mic. If your computer doesn't ask you, then go to realtek audio console to select headset.

Lightly tap your headset mic, the microphone array signal meter will move, thus verifying that you are using your headset mic.

My headset is JBL Quantum 100. It uses a single 3.5 mm jack with three black rings (P3 / TRRS). The microphone is detachable, but it plugs into the headset itself — the headset then connects to the laptop with one 3.5 mm TRRS plug.

It is not USB and not dual-jack.

Hi. I'm David, and I'm happy to help you.

    Please clarify the following:

Does your headset have 2 jack connectors P2 (two black or white lines), a single jack connector P3 (three black or white lines), or a USB connector?

Also, share a screenshot of your system information.

    • Press "Windows + R", type msinfo32 and press Enter.

Maximize the window and use the shortcut "Windows + Shift + S" to use the screenshot tool.

    I await your reply.

If your JBL Quantum 100 headset microphone is not being detected by Windows, there are several troubleshooting steps you can take:

    1. Check Connections: Ensure that the headset is properly connected to the audio jack. Sometimes, a loose connection can prevent the microphone from being recognized.
    2. Sound Control Panel: Open the Sound Control Panel by typing mmsys.cpl in the Run dialog (Win + R). Under the Recording tab, right-click in the empty space and ensure that both "Show Disabled Devices" and "Show Disconnected Devices" are checked. This will help you see if the microphone is listed but disabled.
    3. Default Device: Make sure that your JBL headset is set as the default recording device. You can do this by right-clicking on the device in the Sound Control Panel and selecting "Set as Default Device".
    4. Driver Update: Check if your audio drivers are up to date. You can do this through Device Manager. Expand the "Sound, video and game controllers" section, right-click on your audio device, and select "Update driver".
    5. Test with Another Device: If possible, test the headset on another computer or device to determine if the issue is with the headset itself or your computer.
    6. Audio Endpoint Settings: Sometimes, the audio endpoint settings may not correctly recognize the headset. You may need to check the audio settings in Windows to ensure that the headset is recognized correctly.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, there may be a hardware problem with the headset or compatibility issues with the audio drivers on your system.
