I cannot access MS Family 360 apps from my Mac locally. I can only do this online. That's not what I want

I recently purchased MS 365 Family and have installed it on my Macbook. I had a personal MS 360 Office subscription on the machine prior. I cancelled that sub and installed Family so I could share the license w/ my wife. I did that and her MS apps work fine on her machine.

When I choose to start one of the apps - Excel, Word or PowerPoint, or click on an old document, spreadsheet, etc. on my new Macbook Pro the app returns a very long error message, which starts by saying, "MS Excel unexpectedly quit," and goes on with code from there. I have called Best Buy's Geek Squad and they couldn't fix the issue. I have tried multiple times to re-install and install, but I get the same message.

This is very frustrating and if I can't solve it I will consider canceling the subscription.

It sounds like you're experiencing a frustrating issue with Microsoft 365 apps on your Mac. The error message indicating that "MS Excel unexpectedly quit" suggests that there may be a problem with the installation or compatibility of the Office apps on your system.

Here are some steps you can try to resolve the issue:

    1. Uninstall and Reinstall Office: Use the Microsoft 365 Uninstall troubleshooter to completely remove Office from your Mac. After uninstalling, restart your Mac and then reinstall Microsoft 365 Family.
    2. Check for Updates: Ensure that your macOS and Office apps are updated to the latest versions. Sometimes compatibility issues arise from outdated software.
    3. Check for Conflicting Software: Make sure there are no other versions of Office installed that might conflict with the new installation. You may need to remove any remnants of the previous subscription.
    4. Run in Safe Mode: Try starting your Mac in Safe Mode and then launch the Office apps. This can help determine if other software is causing the issue.
    5. Contact Microsoft Support: If the problem persists, it may be best to reach out to Microsoft Support directly for assistance, as they can provide more tailored troubleshooting steps.

If you continue to encounter issues after trying these steps, it may be worth considering other options, but hopefully, one of these solutions will help you get your Office apps working locally again.
