Hacked email, went through the recovery process with Microsoft, Microsoft sends me a link to re set my password. They ask for the email I want to recover, I type my email and it says it red letters the link timed out and it does nothing else. Went back to check the link and try it again and the email with the link has been removed.

    Dear Curt Gerenda

Thank you for your question, for sharing the details into Microsoft Q&A Forum and for completing the recovery steps. I’m sorry you’re running into a “link timed out” message and that the reset-link email seems to have disappeared. I understand this is so frustrating.

Since the link has timed out and the email with the reset link seems to have been removed, please run the recovery/password reset process again to generate a new link.

If the recovery steps you are referring to direct you to the Microsoft account recovery form (ACSR): https://account.live.com/acsr, please submit the ACSR form one more time to generate a fresh recovery attempt and receive updated instructions at your contact email.

For more information, please visit: Help with the Microsoft account recovery form - Microsoft Support

Helpful tips to help prevent the reset/recovery link/session from timing out again:

    • Avoid requesting multiple recovery/reset links back-to-back; if you request a new one, use only the most recent email/link you received.
    • Open the link in a full browser (Edge) instead of an embedded email preview pane; you can copy and paste the entire URL into the browser address bar.
    • Try InPrivate/Incognito mode and temporarily disable browser extensions, then retry.
    • Check your device Date/Time/Time zone are correct, then try again.
    • Use a stable network and avoid VPN/proxy during the recovery/reset flow.

I hope the steps above help you complete the account recovery and prevent the reset link from timing out again. Wishing you a smooth recovery experience and secure access to your email account.

It sounds like you're experiencing issues with the password recovery link for your email account. Here are some steps you can take to resolve this issue:

    1. Wait and Retry: Sometimes, recovery links can time out. If you receive a new recovery email, make sure to use the link promptly. If the link has expired, you may need to initiate the recovery process again.
    2. Check Your Spam/Junk Folder: If the recovery email has been removed from your inbox, check your spam or junk folder to see if it was filtered there.
    3. Use the Official Recovery Form: If you continue to have trouble, you can try using the official Microsoft account recovery form at account.live.com/acsr. This form allows you to provide information to verify your identity and regain access to your account.
    4. Contact Microsoft Support: If you are unable to recover your account through the above methods, consider reaching out to Microsoft Support for further assistance. They can guide you through the recovery process.
    5. Security Measures: Ensure that your account security information is up to date, including recovery email addresses and phone numbers, to facilitate future recovery attempts.

If you suspect that your account has been hacked, it’s crucial to act quickly to secure it and prevent further unauthorized access.
