Hi @Houston, Dale,
Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.
I completely understand your concern, especially if you regularly work with Linux file paths in email bodies and need to type them accurately. In that situation, the current behavior can certainly feel risky and distracting.
Unfortunately, at this time, Outlook’s “type / to insert or attach” prompt is a built‑in behavior and can’t be disabled through a setting. That said, there are a couple of practical ways to manage it in day‑to‑day use. In most cases, you can simply continue typing and the prompt should dismiss itself, or alternatively, you can press Esc to close it immediately.
Because you’re understandably concerned about accidentally sending something unintended, one helpful habit is to do a quick check of the attachment area, or the message body if content is inserted inline before selecting Send, particularly after typing paths that include multiple slashes.
Since this behavior is tied to product design, the most effective way to request an option to turn it off is to submit feedback directly through the Outlook (new) · Community portal.
Once you've submitted your feedback, feel free to share the link here in the comments. I’d be more than happy to upvote it to help raise visibility. And if you run into any issues submitting feedback, just let me know and I’ll gladly submit one on your behalf.

Since other users have expressed similar concerns, I hope this explanation not only clarifies the current behavior but also highlights a constructive path forward. Surfacing this feedback publicly can help others add their voices as well.

Wishing you all the best.
