Duplicate emails in sent files.

I use outlook on my iphone for two email accounts. The system is currently saving two sets of emails on my personal email account but only the normal one on the business email account. When I amend my personal email account not to save copies, it stops any emails being saved on my business email account. Having duplicate emails is better than having no saved emails but it's very annoying having to delete the duplicates each time.

Is there a way to sort this?

Yeah, this is just an Outlook iOS quirk unfortunately. The “save sent mail” setting isn’t really per-account even though it looks like it is, so turning it off for one breaks it for the other. Easiest workaround is to leave it on in Outlook and fix the duplicates on your personal email side (like Gmail saving its own sent copy). Otherwise it’s basically a choice between duplicates or missing sent mail, Outlook on iPhone just doesn’t handle this cleanly yet.

    Welcome Rosie Berry,

Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A forum.

I know how frustrating it can be when duplicates in the Sent folder often occur with multiple accounts in the Outlook iPhone app.

Regarding your case, I can see that QA Assist has already provided some helpful troubleshooting steps.  Besides, you may find these additional options helpful:

Option 1: Re-add Your Accounts in Outlook for iOS

    Remove personal account

    • Open Outlook on your iPhone
    • Go to Settings (tap your profile icon > gear icon)
    • Select your personal account
    • Tap Delete Account / Remove Account

Add the Personal Account Back Using the Correct Provider

    • In Outlook iOS > Settings > Add Account > Add Email Account, choose the correct provider:
      • Gmail > Add Google
      • iCloud > Add iCloud
      • Outlook.com/Hotmail > Add Outlook.com

    Option 2: Work account fix

Check the work account: make sure it’s using Microsoft 365/Exchange (not IMAP)

    • Go to Outlook iOS > Settings > select your work account.
    • If it appears to have been added as IMAP (custom domain mail is often IMAP), it’s recommended to switch it

If the work account is Microsoft 365/Exchange, remove and add it again:

    • Remove the work account from Outlook iOS.
    • Add it back and choose Microsoft 365 / Exchange.

I really hope that the information I gave above was helpful to you. Please feel free to reply below and let me know if you have further concern on this matter.

It sounds like you are experiencing issues with duplicate emails being saved in your personal email account while using Outlook on your iPhone. This can happen due to various reasons, including settings related to how sent items are handled for different accounts.

To address this issue, you can check the following:

    1. DelegateSentItemsStyle and MessageCopyForSentAsEnabled Settings: These settings control how sent emails are saved in different mailboxes. If your personal and business accounts are configured in a way that affects how sent items are handled, it could lead to duplicates. You might want to ensure that these settings are correctly configured for each account.
      • For example, if DelegateSentItemsStyle is set to 0 and MessageCopyForSentAsEnabled is set to True, a copy of the email will be saved in both the primary and shared mailbox. Adjusting these settings might help resolve the duplication issue.
    2. Check for Synchronization Issues: Sometimes, synchronization problems between your mobile device and the email server can cause duplicate emails. Ensure that your accounts are syncing correctly and that there are no issues with the server.
    3. Remove Duplicate Folders: If you see duplicate folders in your Outlook, it may be due to synchronization with a mobile device or third-party applications. Removing any duplicate folders might help streamline your email management.
    4. Contact Support: If the issue persists, consider reaching out to Microsoft support or checking the Microsoft Community forums for additional assistance specific to your configuration.

By reviewing these settings and ensuring everything is configured correctly, you should be able to reduce or eliminate the issue of duplicate emails in your sent items.
