My Microsoft 365 account is saying "unable to associate your purchase" when logging in

Whenever I sign into my Microsoft 365 account (which was working up until today), it says it can't associate my purchase with my account. Here is a screenshot of the popup. I have confirmed receipt of payment via Apple subscription (renewed Dec 23) and I have used Microsoft word since then (Jan 15). I'm not sure why it all of a sudden logged me out and isn't associating my purchase with this account anymore.

Hi, I'm John! I will help you with this.

To fix this, please try signing out of all Office apps on your Mac, then sign back in using the same Microsoft account that’s linked to your subscription.

If the message still appears, I suggest uninstalling Office completely, then reinstalling it from your Microsoft account services page to make sure it’s properly linked:

I’d suggest is to uninstall any existing Office apps on your Mac to avoid conflict: https://support.microsoft.com/office/uninstall-office-for-mac-eefa1199-5b58-43af-8a3d-b73dc1a8cae3

    Then, to reinstall Microsoft Office:

    • Go to https://account.microsoft.com/services
    • Sign in using the same Microsoft account linked to your subscription.
    • Find your Microsoft 365 subscription and click the "Install".
    • That will download the installer for the Office apps, just run it and follow the steps.

If anything’s unclear or the "Install" option still doesn’t show, feel free to let me know. I’ll be happy to walk you through it!

I really hope this information is helpful! Let me know if you have any further questions or concerns.

    Regards,

    John J.D.

If you're encountering the error message "unable to associate your purchase" when logging into your Microsoft 365 account, it may be due to several reasons related to your account or subscription status. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue:

    1. Check Your Subscription Status: Ensure that your subscription is active and that the payment has been processed correctly. You can verify this through your Microsoft account.
    2. Sign Out and Sign Back In: Sometimes, simply signing out of your Microsoft 365 account and signing back in can resolve temporary issues.
    3. Use the Correct Account: Make sure you are signing in with the same account that is associated with your Microsoft 365 subscription. If you have multiple accounts, it’s easy to mistakenly log in with the wrong one.
    4. Contact Support: If the issue persists, consider reaching out to Microsoft Support for assistance. They can provide more specific guidance based on your account details.
    5. Check for Updates: Ensure that your Microsoft 365 apps are up to date, as outdated software can sometimes lead to activation issues.

If you have confirmed your payment and the issue continues, it’s advisable to follow up with Microsoft support for further resolution.
