Hi! When this happens is usually because Word thinks the file is not writable, Word is not properly activated, or macOS is blocking Word’s access to the folder/drive.

In Finder, select the document > File > Get Info > make sure Locked is unchecked. If the file came from Mail / Messages/web download, try to save the attachment to your Desktop first, then open it from there.

If that's not your case, open Word > Word > About Word and share a picture, please.

If the options to save or "save as" your Word document are grayed out, it could be due to several reasons. Here are some potential solutions:

    1. Check for Updates: Ensure that your version of Word is up to date. Sometimes, bugs that affect functionality can be resolved with the latest updates.
    2. Exit Other Applications: Make sure all other Office applications are closed. Sometimes, conflicts can occur if multiple Office apps are running simultaneously.
    3. Restart Word: Close Word completely and reopen it. This can refresh the application and resolve temporary glitches.
    4. Check Document Permissions: Ensure that the document is not opened in a read-only mode or that you have the necessary permissions to edit and save the document.
    5. Repair Office: If the issue persists, consider running an Online Repair of Office. This can often resolve deeper issues with the application. You can find instructions for this on the Microsoft support site.

If none of these steps work, you may want to reach out to Microsoft support for further assistance.
