How to change account email from a business one (not admin) to a personal one with Microsoft 365?

I created a Microsoft 365 account using a corporate email address. I use the subscription for work, but it's a personal purchase. However, my corporate email address changed, and now I cannot update my Microsoft 365 login/username because I am not the admin of my work email address domain. I also accidentally set up my login as a work/business one, and I'm now realizing I should have set it up as a personal one. How do I correct this, so I can switch which email is associated with my Microsoft 365 account?

    Dear @HF,

Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Q&A forum. I am happy to assist you.

From your description, it appears that your Microsoft 365 subscription was originally created using your corporate email address, even though the purchase and subscription belong to you personally. Because the domain is owned and managed by your company, and you are not the administrator of that domain, you are unable to change the sign‑in email or username yourself. This is expected behavior, as only the domain administrator can modify or remove identities created under an organizational (work or school) tenant.

Microsoft does not support converting an organizational account into a personal Outlook.com account. Work or school accounts are fully managed by the organization’s IT administrator, and only they can update, rename, or remove the sign‑in email. Even though the subscription is personal, the login identity (email/UPN) still belongs to your company’s domain.

If you want to check whether you can update information on a personal Microsoft account, you may try signing in at office.com to see if any options are available.
